Description

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Machinist to support our internal machine shop, Fab operations, and engineering teams. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys precision machining, solving practical mechanical problems, and working closely with engineers and technicians to turn ideas and requirements into high-quality parts and solutions.

The position may be full-time or part-time, and we welcome applications from experienced retired machinists who are interested in contributing their skills and expertise in a flexible work environment.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate machine shop equipment to fabricate, modify, and repair precision parts, tooling, fixtures, and components in support of Fab equipment and engineering needs
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, dimensions, tolerances, and specifications
  • Set up and perform machining operations safely and accurately
  • Use precision measuring and inspection tools to verify dimensions, tolerances, fit, and overall quality
  • Work directly with engineers and technicians to understand requirements, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and develop practical machining solutions
  • Support prototype, one-off, repair, and small-quantity fabrication needs
  • Recommend appropriate machining methods, materials, tooling, and approaches based on project requirements
  • Maintain machine tools and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition
  • Follow established safety procedures and good machine shop practices
  • As our needs grow, support the expansion and development of a more comprehensive internal machine shop capability
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on machining experience preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated machining skills
  • Ability to independently read engineering drawings and fabricate parts to required dimensions and tolerances
  • Strong craftsmanship, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection tools
  • Machinist certification, apprenticeship, or technical/vocational training preferred
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with engineers, technicians, and other team members
  • Full-time, part-time, and experienced retired candidates are welcome

Required Machine Experience

Candidates must be able to safely set up and operate the following equipment:

  • Lathe – MSC 951735
  • Milling Machine – Bridgeport EZTRAK
  • Drill Press – MSC 951215

Experience performing independent machining work on these or comparable machines is required.
